Do Not Believe the New Lies of the US and the War Coalition

The Occupation Must End! Bring the Danish Troops Home Now!

Statement of the Workers’ Communist Party of Denmark (APK), May 28, 2004

The US and the occupying coalition in Iraq are now saying that Iraq will become independent and sovereign on June 30 when “the power will be transferred to the Iraqis”.

In cooperation with the UN special envoy to Iraq, Lakhdar Brahimi, and with the support of a new UN Security Council resolution, a new “Iraqi” government will be appointed, replacing the completely discredited US-installed Governing Council.

This is a lie just like the lie about weapons of mass destruction, which was the pretext for going to war: These weapons did not exist, and Iraqi sovereignty will not exist after June 30. It will not exist as long as the US and its allies are occupying Iraq. The new Iraqi government will be another US vassal government.

The invasion of Iraq by the US and its allies is one big war crime. The war and the occupation are contrary to international law and have been carried out with shocking brutality. Tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians have been killed. More than 700 people have been massacred in Falluja alone. The pictures of systematic killings, torture and sexual abuse in the Iraqi prisons, committed by US and UK soldiers, have chocked the entire world.

These pictures have now come to stand as a symbol for the falseness of the allegation that the war should bring freedom and democracy to the Iraqis. Now the US and its allies are waging terror war against the broad Iraqi population, who is demanding an end to the occupation.

The Iraqis are resisting the occupying power, fighting for throwing it out of Iraq. It is their right. Bush, Blair, Fogh Rasmussen and the rest of the war coalition have just as little right to be in Iraq as Israel has to keep Palestine occupied.

A new lie and a new scam like the instalment of some other puppets after June 30 will not stop the legitimate resistance of the Iraqi people.

It is shameful that not only the Fogh Rasmussen government, but also the Social Democrats and the Social Liberals will prolong Denmark's illegal war participation.

There is only one single solution: The occupation must end. The war coalition headed by the US must leave Iraq completely. The Danish troops must come home – now!
